Yuto is currently a graduate student at the University of Washington’s School of Marine and Environmental Affairs (SMEA). He is working on his Master’s thesis on the climate adaptation strategies for Japanese fisheries, getting advice from researchers in Ocean Nexus. He has been working for the Fisheries Agency of Japan since 2014, where he engaged in domestic fisheries management, aquaculture promotion, multilateral environmental treaties and so on. He applied to a two-year studying abroad program sponsored by the Government of Japan, and got a research opportunity at SMEA. Through his research, He is excited to broaden his perspective on ocean governance, which would be useful for his future work at the agency.
Yuto is a seafood lover. In his free time, he looks for fresh local seafood, visiting markets and sometimes setting out for clamming.
