Matt Ziegler, Ph.D.

Innovation Fellow

Information and Communication Technology for Development, Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering, University of Washington

Dr. Matt Ziegler researches how environmental organizations like NGO’s and government agencies can more effectively harness emerging technologies in their work, critically examining their exciting potentials and realistic limitations. He completed a PhD in Computer Science and Engineering in 2022; and draws from experience on a broad range of environmental and technical projects in academia, startups, and the nonprofit sector. Matt works with the “Information and Communication Technology for Development” group at the University of Washington, specializing in technology projects for economically developing, low-infrastructure contexts. As an Ocean Nexus fellow, he aims to leverage some of the hard-fought lessons from the development sector to help environmental organizations think more strategically about their technology initiatives.

Matt likes to do slow-rolling bike tours on weekends, and hang out in Seattle’s house and techno music communities.
