Jesús Manuel Jiménez-Torres is a Biologist, Specialist, and M.Sc. in sustainable development management from the Universidad del Magdalena (Colombia). He is currently a member of the Research Group on Socio-Ecological Systems for Human Well-Being (in spanish: Grupo de Investigación en Sistemas Socioecológicos para el Binestar Humano [GISSBH]) at the same institution. Over the past twelve (12) years, he has focused his research career on the study of small-scale fisheries as socioecological systems. His work recognizes the value of local ecological knowledge and the traditional knowledge of fishing communities and peoples as essential components for fostering more equitable, inclusive, and participatory decision-making processes, in conjunction with scientific and technical knowledge. Throughout his professional experience, he has participated in applied research projects conducted with coastal communities in the Colombian Caribbean and Pacific regions, contributing to the diagnosis, design, and development of participatory fisheries management initiatives. His main research interests include strengthening self-governance capacities in fishing territories, co-producing knowledge for adaptive governance, and generating evidence-based inputs for fisheries management policies that effectively address the needs and challenges of small scale fisheries.
